For the first time in the history of The King’s School Chester, both the boys’ and the girls’ first VIIIs have qualified for Henley Royal Regatta.
This incredible achievement comes at the end of a fantastic season for both crews and, for some Upper Sixth leavers, will mark a memorable finale as they conclude their school rowing careers at Henley.
Interim Director of Rowing, James Gray, expressed his excitement at the double qualification.
He said: “Henley Royal Regatta is a highlight of the sporting and social calendar and represents the very pinnacle of our sport. Both of our first VIII crews embody the true spirit of athlete scholars, and I am incredibly proud to see them compete on such an important international stage.”
The crews will compete in the first round on Tuesday, 1 July. The boys’ first VIII will race Claires Court School in the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at 10:35am, followed by the girls’ first VIII facing off against the Saugatuck Rowing Club from the USA in the Prince Philip Challenge Cup at 2:40pm.
Both races will be live streamed on YouTube:
