Memorial Garden

The Memorial Garden is intended to be a place we can honor God and remember those saints who have gone on before us. The original idea for the project was brought to EOCC by James Townsend in 1996 as his Eagle Scout project and approved by the Board of Trustees on August 13th of that year. To quote James "the idea of this project is to build a living memorial garden... for people who wish to plant flowers in memory of someone who has passed away. The garden is considered 'living' because as more people want to remember family, the garden will expand and take shape. This project will help the church bring the community together in remembering those loved ones who have passed away. The garden will serve as a way to happily remember those people".   The garden is designed in the shape of a cross with sunrays bursting forth. A plaque on the rock which stands in it's center has these words inscribed on it: Memorial Garden: dedicated to the Glory of God on this site of the East Orrington Congregational Church Meeting House of 1842. "We remember with love those 'Saints' who go before us." The Memorial Garden was dedicated on May 25,1997 The present garden committee is devoted to maintaining the garden as a place of quiet contemplation.
